Partner Toolkit

National Safe Boating Week
May 16-22, 2020

For the 2020 annual celebration of National Safe Boating Week, the National Safe Boating Council encourages partners to communicate with their local community via digital outreach and launch point reminders about recreational boating safety due to COVID-19. Boating and fishing access will vary, so please follow state and local guidance.

This toolkit provides partners with social distancing talking points, daily social media posts, template press releases, template letter-to-the-editor, safe boating tips, images and more.

Important Information

Water Access

In many areas, the water is open. It’s more important than ever that boaters are responsible to limit unnecessary risk to other boaters, themselves, law enforcement, and first responders. Boating and fishing access will vary, so please follow state and local guidance.

In-Person Events

In following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, partners should postpone or cancel all large gatherings until otherwise notified by your state or local officials (such as Ready, Set, Wear Life Jacket Days; vessel safety checks; and other events of more than 10 people).

Wear Your Life Jacket to Work (or Home) Day

We encourage all boaters to participate in Wear Your Life Jacket to Work (or Home) Day on May 15, 2020, the day before National Safe Boating Week. No matter where boaters are safely working, they can join in the fun by wearing their life jacket and posting creative pictures on social media for a chance to win a prize.

This is a great way to encourage others to boat responsibly, including following state and local guidance for boating.

How to Participate

Boaters share a picture of themselves wearing a life jacket at work (or home) on social media along with the hashtag #lifejacket2work and tagging @boatingcampaign (Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram).

Don’t use social media? Email photos to outreach@safeboatingcouncil.org.

Chance to Win a Prize

Winners will be chosen randomly throughout the day to receive boating swag from the Safe Boating Campaign, such as t-shirts, dry bags, first aid kits, stickers, and more.
