Hello June!
This National Safety Month, we’re all about water sports thrills and rental safety smarts! Whether you’re wakeboarding, tubing, or renting a boat for the first time, make sure fun doesn’t come at the cost of safety.
Here are a few tips to help you stay safe on the water this month – and all summer long:
- Life jackets are a must: Life jackets save lives. No matter how strong a swimmer you are, always wear a life jacket.
- Towed sports = teamwork: Bring a buddy and inspect all your gear before you launch.
- Stretch, hydrate, and pace yourself: Know your limits and listen to your body.
- Renting a boat? Get local knowledge, check the tides, and locate safety gear before you leave shore. Life jackets and an engine cut-off switch are essential gear.
- New to boating? Check out on-water training from your local boat club or marina. You can also take a course from the National Safe Boating Council at www.safeboatingcouncil.org/training/on-water-courses
- Rules of the water matter. Whether renting or owning, know the navigation rules! www.boatoncourse.com
Let’s make June our safest, splashiest month yet! Because a SAFE day on the water is a perfect day on the water!
